Chili Verde

I had to drive out to the Palm Desert for work today. My buddy Gabe and I stopped at a restaurant in Banning that he'd been to quite awhile ago. He was telling me how good their Chili Verde breakfast burritos were. I always let Gabe order first at mexican restaurants, that way they know I'm in on the secret handshake, plus if he orders some classified stuff off the "No Say" menu, I can just do the old, "I'll have what he's having".

Obviously, we opted for the Chili Verde as it was the entire reason we stopped there, but they had other options, too. It was still "breakfast" time(ish), so we had eggs and potatoes added to the mix. They have a chart that changes everyday to let you know what to expect.

It was probably more "mild" than "medium". They said it was dependent on how spicy the jalapenos were for the particular batch of meat. I could not believe the flavor, delicious. I worked on the family pig ranch as a kid, so I'm pretty versed on pork. This had good meaty flavor, the green chili was obviously there, but the best part was the pepper. Weird, right? But, it just hit me on many different bites. Wow.

Of course, they offered the chips and salsa, but they also had the option of homemade red or green hot sauces. I did the red, really pretty good.

I would definitely go back. Pretty decent crowd at an off hour. A ton of local phone in orders from road crews and mechanics. Big burrito and a pop for less than 7 bucks.  My kind of place. Here's a shot of the menu with the pertinent info.
